our debut album
These songs began as fragments of stories and images: lovers on the run, fading memories, rivers carrying secrets away, and small moments of tenderness in the dark. Over time, the fragments began to find each other, forming a shared world where beauty and danger are always intertwined, and where love, memory, and loss leave traces behind.
One Part Gin’s self-titled album takes listeners into a unique world of unsettling stories. Picture a bird’s-eye view of a pioneer landscape, where the good and the bad collide, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. The darkest corners are brought into the light through stories of tenderness, longing and desperation.
The astute listener may notice recurring characters and themes between the songs, as well as shifting timelines. Perhaps it’s just another doomed family tree, or maybe it’s the stirring of a soul too stubborn to succumb. Sam and Holly continue to find new connections between the songs, delighting in the characters who step into the spotlight with each one.
The album was recorded on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, in a beautiful mudbrick recording studio with Richard Pleasance.
Mastering by William Bowden of King Willy Sound.
